Visibility Reducing Barriers in Telford
Bugsplatz letter to Telford & Wrekin Council requesting to reconsider their installation of the barriers is here
If you have been about at the Old Park Round about in Telford, the visibility barrier stands there erected standing as the divider blocking a decent view of traffic emerging from right.
Steve Shaw, pictured here has information that they were erected by the Council to make drivers slow right down before they get to the round about to reduce rear end shunts.
Many members of the club have ridden around the roundabout and have found it to be utterly unsafe for motorcyclists. It is strongly believed that the erection there is a case of a 'fatal accident waiting to happen'. The council we have been told have spent about £140,000 to get the barrier erected, which we feel was an avoidable expense that could have otherwise been well-utilised.
A simple driving condition that is known to be safe when a drivers view is clear, wide and well informed is made needlessly complicated by tunnelling a driver blindly to a huge roundabout and exposing him/her to a flood of potential traffic from the right. Also motorists approaching the round about have only about 15 metres to identify any other motorist............. makes any sense?
